St. Joseph Lecture: Dr. Massimo Faggioli
Dr. Massimo Faggioli is a professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University. A contributing editor to Commonweal, Dr. Faggioli is an expert in church history, this history of Christianity, American Catholicism, historical theology and ecclesiology, and the relationship between Catholicism and world/European politics.
Faggioli’s talk, “The Church between Francis and Trump: Catholicism, Nationalism, and Anti-Globalism,” will address the Catholic view of political power and power of the state and government, from the Middle Ages to today. The focus will be on the last century, and in particular between the Second Vatican Council and today, and will try to cast a light on the new situation for the global Catholic Church in this age of depoliticization, anti-establishment sentiment, and challenges to multiculturalism and inter-religious coexistence.
Generously sponsored by Edward J. Quinn, Jr. ’63 and his wife, Kathleen Reilly Quinn. RSVP online at prov.ly/pc-faggioli.
